If you use the science search engine called Scirus, then you will want to “enable” the link between the search results you get in Scirus and the SUNY Potsdam journal holdings (online and print). To do that, connect to Scirus click on the tab for “Search Preferences”. Under “Library Partner Links” click the button for “Enable” and choose “SUNY at Potsdam” from the list of institutions. Once you have done this, all your future searches (until you delete your “cookies”) will include links to the SUNY Potsdam “ArticleLinker”.

For topics related to politics, social issues, international relations and similar fields, the resources in the CQ Electronic Library are a good choice.  They include the recent years of CQ Weekly Report and the CQ Researcher, both published by Congressional Quarterly, Inc.  The focus is on the U.S. Congress, so the subject matter is as varied as the issues that reach this forum.

The CQ Electronic Library is one of the resources listed on the  “General Search Databases” page.

Al Gore and the IPCC have won the Nobel Peace Prize for their work on raising awareness of humankind’s impact on global climate change. A copy of Gore’s documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, can be found in Crumb Library at QC981.8.G56 G674 2006, with its companion book at QC981.8.G56 G67 2006.

Doris Lessing has been awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature. A biography, description of her work, and bibliography can be found at the Nobelprize.org site. Many of her books are available in Crumb Library — Bearcat can show you where.

The complete list of 2007 Nobel Laureates also includes awards to scientists who changed how we approach genetic research, revolutionized the modern computer’s hard drive, and laid the foundations of modern surface chemistry. The Nobel site includes much more information on these acclaimed scientists and their contributions to our collective knowledge.
