JSTOR database will undergo maintenance on Friday and Saturday, September 9th and 10th.  It will be accessible in “read-only” mode.  You will be able to open articles and download them as PDFs but “My Account” features will not be available.

Technology Help Desk in Crumb Library: Seeking hard working work study students who are familiar with both Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OS to staff the new Technology Help Desk in Crumb Library evenings and weekends.  Applicants must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office-Including: Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining public use printers, Print-only stations, Reference Pod Computer workstations, Loaner Laptops
  • Answer technology related questions pertaining to software usage
  • Troubleshoot software and e-mail issues
  • Assist with printer installation

For the 2011 fall semester, the SUNY Potsdam College Archives & Special Collections will be open to the public on Mondays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, and on Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Additionally, researchers are welcome to schedule appointments with the college archivist for times outside of the public hours.

Also beginning for the fall semester, the new college archivist Matt Francis will be responsible for the administration of the College Archives & Special Collections.  Francis comes to SUNY Potsdam from the American Heritage Center of the University of Wyoming where he spent the past three years as an assistant archivist in the arrangement and description department.  He earned his B.A. in history from Bluffton University, and a M.A. in public history from Wright State University.  If you have questions or requests for the archives, please feel free to contact him at francimr@potsdam.edu or 315-267-3326.

Ebsco databases can now be accessed via iPhone and iPod touch apps.  Look to the bottom of the opening screen of any Ebsco database to find a link to instructions.  You can also choose the mobile interface by going to this direct URL and then selecting “Ebsco Mobile”.

Rethinking music: a briefing book” – is from the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.  “This introductory piece briefly describes the broad range of ways the music industry is reacting to and rethinking music and copyright law and policy. The accompanying papers included in this briefing book reflect the views of and provide additional context from a diverse range of stakeholders on some of today’s most pressing legal and policy issues.”
