The SUNY Potsdam Student and Family Transitions office coordinates with students, faculty, and staff at SUNY Potsdam to allow for smooth and effective transition for all undergraduate students at SUNY Potsdam. This department has two sections: Student Transitions and Family Transitions.

Student Transitions

The Student Transition section oversees programs that focus on the academic and social needs of incoming and current undergraduate students. This includes incoming freshman and transfer student support, Veteran transition and support, and Adult Learner transition and support.

Services included are:

– Planning and facilitation of orientation sessions for incoming freshmen and transfer undergraduate students.

-Coordination of multiple sections of the First Year Success SeminarĀ  (FYSS) course.

-Organization of an annual authors visit to the campus for the Common Reading Program that FYSS students participate in.

-Work collaboratively with academic and residential communities to offer healthy and meaningful connections to first year students.

-Oversee the BearBus program, which offers travel to Albany, Westchester County, New York City, and Long Island during college breaks.

-Offer professional and leadership opportunities for undergraduate students to earn academic internship credits as BearBus student coordinator, FYSS Teaching Assistant, or Orientation Leader Staff Assistant.

-Advise the Adult Learner Association (ALA) and oversee membership in the Omicron-Psi Honor Society

-Provide on-campus and external resources for students who are Veterans

Family Transitions

The Family Transitions section focuses on the coordination of Family Weekend activities, The Family Association, and information for families of current students at SUNY Potsdam.
